Speeches from the Ministry of Energy and TPAO at the Turkey Oil & Gas 2014 Summit, 18th-19th February, Istanbul
London, UK (PRWEB UK) 28 February 2014 -- The Summit gathered more than 150 delegates, including Governmental Officials and senior lever executives from international and national companies, with the chairman of the Summit, Mr. Sohbet Karbuz, opening the two day meeting with an outlook of the country’s oil and gas industry to 2030.
Mr. Besim Sisman, the Acting President of TPAO was amongst the speaker faculty and gave exclusive insights on TPAO’s strategy around national and international projects. He referred to the agenda for the upcoming years, expressing the company’s interest in the deep offshore explorations, the unconventional exploitation and the Arctic frontier. As for the recently revived interest in the Black Sea, Mr. Sisman highlighted that the seismic surveys have shown many good offshore prospects in the area and gave a positive message that there are many opportunities in the country waiting to be explored.
The Chairman and CEO of TransAtlantic, Mr. Malone Mitchell 3rd, also supported Mr. Sisman’s view, highlighting that “Turkey is a very favourable place to do business”. TransAtlantic has been fracking oil fields in Turkey since 2011; with an analysis of the seismic studies and their field operations, Mr Mitchell highlighted that “The geology of Turkey is not complex, it is just less understood”. His presentation showed to delegates that the hydrocarbons in the country are underexplored as only a few wells have been drilled even in fields with many prospects. Mr. Sohbet Karbuz, chairman of the Turkey Oil & Gas Summit and Director of Hydrocarbons at the Mediterranean Observatory for Energy, expressed his positive opinion at the end of Mr.Mitchell’s presentation, stating that “In a decade, TransAtlantic will have great success in Turkey”, but Mr. Mitchell went on to say that it is likely to happen in less than a decade.
Mr. Selami Incedalci, General Manager of the Directorate of Petroleum Works at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, spoke about the New Petroleum Law in Turkey, analysing the technicalities, developments, and implications, whilst explaining the regulations and the way license boundaries are set as well as how auctions work in the country.
Mr. Alastair Gray, the International Exploration Manager of Tiway Oil, gave an overview of the company’s exploration assets in Southeastern Turkey and the Sea of Marmara, presenting the data the company gathered in their licensed fields.
Mr. Emre Engur, Head of the Strategy Development and International Projects Department at the Petroleum Pipeline Corporation, BOTAS, spoke of the effectiveness and capability of the present pipeline system in Turkey during his speech at the summit, with special regard to the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum (BTE), also giving insights on the Kirkuk-Ceyhan pipeline.
