Speed Painter Tim Decker Raises $66,000 for Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation
Palm Harbor, FL (PRWEB) April 29, 2014 -- Some say that time is the most valuable asset, and that proved to be true when renowned Speed Painter Tim Decker recently raised $66,000 for the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation using a painting that took him minutes to create.
Decker, a worldwide touring speed painter, who paints celebrity portraits on oversized canvases in a matter of minutes, recently painted baseball great Cal Ripken Jr. live during The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s 10th Annual Aspire Gala at the Baltimore Waterfront Marriott.
“The painting was created in under five minutes and the performance raised $66,000 total for the foundation, so I’m super excited about it,” said Decker, who over the past year has raised more than $500,000 for various charities.
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation’s 10th Annual Aspire Gala honored leaders from the fields of sports, entertainment, and business.
Special guests of honor included Baseball Hall of Famer and beloved Oriole first baseman, Eddie Murray, longtime winning head basketball coach, Bob Hurley, and Japan’s very own “Iron Man,” Sachio Kinugasa.
As to how Cal Ripken Jr., felt about Decker’s painting and entertainment performance, he said, "You were a big hit."
The Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded by the Ripken family in 2001 in memory of Cal Ripken, Sr. to carry on his legacy of using baseball as a hook to teach critical life lessons to disadvantaged youth.
The Foundation teaches kids the importance of choosing a healthy lifestyle and making smart, productive decisions both on the playing field and in everyday life.
Through active community partnerships with over 300 youth-serving organizations, more than 300,000 underserved youth benefit each year from the Cal Ripken, Sr. Foundation in the most challenged communities across the country.
“This is a wonderful foundation and it was a pure pleasure of mine to be able to help raise money for such a good cause,” Decker said.

Tim grew up in Brodheadsville, a small town in Eastern Pennsylvania and studied Media Communications at East Stroudsburg University. Decker never expressed much interest in art, only taking two art classes to fill his college schedule with less demanding classes.
Then in 2009, Decker woke one morning after having a dream that would change the course of his life. Tim dreamed that he was speed painting on a beach boardwalk, though he had never heard of speed painting up until that point. He woke that morning, bought a gallon of paint, and painted his first portrait, none other than Mr. T. Thus began his journey.
