SPEEDE Server Now Live at the National Student Clearinghouse®
Herndon, Virginia (PRWEB) November 08, 2013 -- The SPEEDE Server is now fully operational at the Clearinghouse. It is available for free in an open access environment. The transfer of the nearly 20-year-old SPEEDE Server included major performance and capacity upgrades to its environment. SPEEDE is a national effort coordinated by the SPEEDE Committee of the American Association of the Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (ACCRAO).
The SPEEDE (Standardization of Post-Secondary Education Electronic Data Exchange) Server was implemented by the University of Texas at Austin in 1995. In October 2012, UT Austin selected the Clearinghouse to assume operation of the SPEEDE Server, and that transition was completed on October 12, 2013. More than 1,000 institutions are registered to use SPEEDE and usage is increasing monthly.
Since 2011, the SPEEDE Server has processed over 14 million documents, and the demand to exchange student records has been steadily ramping up. As part of the transition, the Clearinghouse has moved SPEEDE to an enterprise level virtual server, significantly increasing its computing capacity by a factor of 20 and positioning the SPEEDE server ecosystem to meet accelerating volumes.
SPEEDE is operated under the principles of the Clearinghouse’s recently announced G.R.E.E.N exchange environment. G.R.E.E.N., the Global Registrar EduRecord Exchange Network, is dedicated to promoting a free, open, principles-drive and standards-based network, enabling the secure exchange of electronic student academic records worldwide.
The SPEEDE Server will continue to meet standards set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the Postsecondary Electronic Standards Council (PESC), and new standards as they emerge. Innovations and enhancements to SPEEDE will be driven by the education community.

In addition, the Clearinghouse provides accurate, timely enrollment and degree verifications to student loan providers, employers, student credit issuers, the U.S. Department of Education, and others who access its registry more than half a billion times annually.
