Spiritual Leadership Award to Be Presented Posthumously to Nelson Mandela
Boulder, Colorado (PRWEB) April 17, 2014 -- Perhaps the world’s greatest elected leader during the twentieth century, Nelson Mandela, is being honored posthumously by Humanity’s Team, a global grassroots spiritual movement, on Sunday July 27, at Freedom Park in Pretoria, South Africa. The award will be received on behalf of Mr Mandela by Mr Sello Hatang, the CEO of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Nelson Mandela rose from the Madiba clan where he was a ward of the clan following his father’s passing, to political activism at an early age. He earned a college degree, a law degree, and endured a lengthy and severe imprisonment before becoming South Africa’s first democratically elected President. He stepped down after just one term but he continued to be a powerful world influence for the balance of his life.
Mandela favored collaboration over competition, compassion over retribution and inclusivity over exclusivity. The Nelson Mandela Foundation’s official biography states, “Despite provocation, he never answered racism with racism. His life was an inspiration to all who are oppressed or deprived.”
Humanity’s Team will honor Nelson Mandela with its Spiritual Leadership Award for his embodiment of Ubuntu/Oneness, a deeply spiritual paradigm that affirms all of life is interconnected, interrelated and interdependent. Roughly translated it means, “I am because we are.” Ubuntu/Oneness holds that all of life is Divine and our highest priority must be to nurture all forms of life to create a just, compassionate and sustainable Earth. With his lifetime example, Mandela demonstrated that when we embody Ubuntu/Oneness, we put a deeply felt spirituality on the street where it is most needed.
“Just as Gandhi left a legacy of non-violent resistance, Mandela left a legacy embodying Ubuntu/Oneness. Already his example is emerging as a powerful force in climate change talks, organizational design, sports, technology, business, culture and more,” said Steve Farrell, the Worldwide Coordinating Director for Humanity’s Team.
The award ceremony will be held at Freedom Park in Pretoria, South Africa in coordination with the Walk for an Ubuntu Conscious South Africa – I Am because We Are event. Humanity’s Team South Africa’s country coordinator, Anna-Mari Pieterse, who organized the award ceremony, will host Humanity’s Team Global Council members from all over the world as part of the celebration. Invited guests include: the Nelson Mandela family, the President of South Africa, Jacob Zuma, the 2009 recipient of the Spiritual Leadership Award Archbishop Desmond Tutu, His Holiness, the Dalai Lama and other spiritual leaders. Humanity’s Team leaders and other invited guests will participate in an Ubuntu celebration of Nelson Mandela at The Nelson Mandela Foundation the day preceding the ceremony.
