Sponsors Interview Future Cyber Security Specialists at Competition
Palos Hills, IL (PRWEB) December 20, 2013 -- After the recent Target Corporation data breach, employers are on high alert protecting their business infrastructure. Even though there has been tremendous growth in cyber security professionals, it’s not keeping up the high demands for the executive skills in American businesses. As a result, the National Center for Systems Security and Information Assurance (CSSIA) focuses on addressing the need for cyber security experts by hosting the Midwest Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition (MWCCDC) and sponsoring businesses reap the benefits too.
This competition brings together elite teams of cyber security warriors from two and four-year colleges and universities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Ohio and Wisconsin. These teams will build a mock production business infrastructure while defending from professional “hackers”. Teams will be judged on performance, scoring and supporting the overall event.
A very attractive highlight of the MWCCDC is job recruitment. During the competition, CSSIA hosts a career fair that allows sponsoring businesses, such as the Department of Homeland Security, DELL Secure Works and U.S. Navy’s Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, the opportunity to observe, interview and offer jobs on-site. All students who compete have resumes in hand and are prepared for interviews during the event.
“I see it every year, kids being offered a job on the spot,” states Bob Thomas, FEMA Region V, “The students are given an opportunity to show off their skills and employers are then given the opportunity to evaluate and recruit.”
CSSIA has been stepping up to the plate since 2005, training students to become cyber security specialists. Programs are designed to enable students to use the latest technologies to detect, deter and protect our nation’s digital infrastructure.
They key to success in preparing students for careers in cyber security is to provide real-world experiences through competitions.
