Spoonflower Welcomes New Board Members: Maria Thomas and Scot Wingo

Thomas, whose background includes having served as Etsy CEO from 2008-2010, and Wingo, who co-founded ChannelAdvisor, bring a significant depth of experience to the now seven-person board. The board expansion follows the close of the company’s first round of investment in August, led by North Bridge Growth Equity with participation by Durham’s Bull City Venture Partners.

Maria Thomas served most recently as the Chief Marketing and Consumer Officer of SmartThings, an open platform for the smart home that launched on Kickstarter and was purchased two years later by Samsung. She also served as General Manager of Digital Media at NPR for seven years before taking the CEO post at Etsy from 2008 until 2010. Thomas enjoys leading businesses at the intersection of commerce, media and technology. She also serves on the board of Relay Foods, an online grocery business. Thomas was named one of the 25 Most Influential People on the Web by Bloomberg Business Week.
Scot Wingo, a veteran entrepreneur, co-founded ChannelAdvisor and continues to serve as its executive chairman. Wingo is also co-founder and Executive Chairman at Get Spiffy, Inc., an on-demand, smartphone-powered, technology-enabled, mobile car wash and detailing service. Wingo has served on a number of boards, including Zverse, NC State Engineering Entrepreneurs Program, and Shop.org. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Engineering from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Computer Engineering degree from North Carolina State University, as well as several awards including Ernst and Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year and Triangle Business Journal’s Business Person of the Year.
