Square One Announces Recoupment of Most Recent Broadway Production
TULSA, Okla. (PRWEB) October 17, 2017 -- Jay Krottinger and Ryan Jude Tanner, co-founders of Square One Theatrics, have announced that their award-winning Broadway production Come From Away has recouped all $12 million in production costs in less than eight months. The Broadway-based production joins the enormous success of the Canadian Tour that has also just recouped all costs as well.
This a significant accomplishment in the short life of the production company. “Only 23 percent of all Broadway shows recoup their capitalization costs,” according to Krottinger. “We have been privileged to be a part of the production teams of three shows that have attained this level of success in the five years of Square One. These include Pippin, which won the 2013 Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical, Waitress, which is still running on Broadway, and now Come From Away.
Come From Away is based on the events following the tragedy of 9/11, when 38 planes with over 6500 passengers were stranded in a remote town in Newfoundland. Locals opened their hearts and homes to the travelers, building a new and extraordinary “community” in the days that brought them together. Audiences and critics alike have fallen in love with the show. Ticket sales have been extended through at least December 2018 and the production received the most awards this past spring, including Outstanding Musical awards from both Outer Critics and Drama Desk, as well as Outstanding Production of a Broadway Production from the Drama League.
Tanner and Krottinger share a deep commitment to the importance of the arts and seek out productions that can lift the human spirit. “Theater can change lives, connecting actors and audiences with the life questions we need most to explore,” explains Tanner. The mission of Square One directs their selection of productions that most fit this framework.
The North American Tour of Come From Away begins October 18.
