St. John’s Graduates Buck National Trends by Earning Their Degree in 4 Years
Santa Fe, NM (PRWEB) December 05, 2014 -- In response to recent national trends showing that a majority of colleges graduate less than 50 percent of their full-time students in four years, St. John’s College, Santa Fe is proud to announce its high 4-year completion rate amongst its graduates. St. John’s undergraduate students follow the same full-time interdisciplinary liberal arts and sciences program, which keeps them on track to earn their bachelor’s degree on time. Because students attain their degree in four years, they take on less debt and waste less time with unnecessary courses and additional semesters.
“St. John’s College is one of the very few schools that provides a coherent, structured four-year undergraduate curriculum for every single undergraduate,” said J. Walter Sterling, Dean of St. John’s College. “We believe in the great value of our academic model, not just because of its thoughtful whole human being approach, but also because of the value it provides students in only four years.”
According to a recent New York Times article, only 19 percent of full-time students earn a bachelor’s degree in four years at most public universities. Even at selective, research-intensive institutions, only 36 percent of undergraduate students earn their degree on time. A new report by the non-profit Complete College America, estimates a cost of $68,153 for each additional year of schooling after four, when factoring in costs for tuition and fees, room and board, and other expenses, as well as lost wages. The report shows that for a large number of US undergraduate students, higher education costs too much and takes too long.
St. John's College paves a direct route to graduation for its students thorough a unified undergraduate curriculum in which students progress at the same time as their peers. St. John’s wide-ranging interdisciplinary program includes philosophy, literature, history, mathematics, economics, political theory, theology, biology, physics, music, chemistry and languages, taking the guess work out of navigating multiple course catalogs, majors, minors and electives. Because of St. John’s unique, comprehensive approach and prescribed course of study, students successfully graduate in four years having lowered the total cost of their degree.
