St. John the Baptist School and Church Hosts Parent Night and Open House
Harrison, OH (PRWEB) January 11, 2015 -- The St. John the Baptist School and Church has a mission of educating each child spiritually, academically, socially, physically, and emotionally. The school is unique, as they are the only Catholic school in the area and one of the only schools offering preschool through 8th grade, as well as a full day kindergarten program, which is hard to find in most schools.
On January 21st, the community is invited to attend their Kindergarten Parent Evening to learn more about the school and their programs. For Kindergartners, they offer half and full day programs to suit every parents’ needs. In addition, they are holding an Open House for all grades, on January 25th.
Enrolling your children in kindergarten is not a new thing, however most people are not fully aware of the benefits that kindergarten offers to the young. In one USA Today article, the Children’s Defense Funds’ Director of Child Welfare and Mental Health, MaryLee Allen, commented on the matter, saying that “children who have access to full day kindergarten are more prepared for school and making that transition to first grade.”
Among the benefits of easing that transition, an assessment done by the NASP Center has shown that enrolling a child in a full day of kindergarten gives the child the advantages of having higher test scores, fewer grade retentions, greater creativity, higher self-esteem and independence, more reinforcement of positive social behaviors, and higher longer-term achievement.
“Children are wonderfully curious little beings with minds more impressive than we know. They learn and retain things that are sometimes only mentioned once. It is an incredible trait that lets them learn social values, self and spiritual awareness, a better sense of self-esteem, and it helps create the foundation of all future learning they will do. During this time, schools like ours can help foster these attributes and help them to grow stronger,” said Susan Meyman, Principal.
