St. Michael’s Converts to Solar Power for Campus Facilities
Poway, California (PRWEB) June 22, 2015 -- Since its inception in 1959, St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Poway, California has committed to meet the needs of the local community through a campus of facilities including a church, rectory, convent, playground and school. This summer, St. Michael’s is working to set an example as good stewards of the earth by embracing a clean energy future. Starting today, the church will be installing more than 1,000 solar panels across their facilities with local design-build firm, Sullivan Solar Power.
“By adopting solar power for our church and school facilities, we are not only being good stewards of what God has given us, but also we are able to spend less money on energy and then direct those savings toward additional services for our parishioners and school members,” said Jim Gase, Plant Manager of St. Michael’s Church.
The three solar projects are being installed to power the church and school facilities will eliminate 733,683 pounds of carbon emissions from being emitted into the atmosphere each year. The solar power systems will produce more than 324,620-Watts of clean energy to offset approximately 82 percent of St. Michael’s campus consumption. Over the next 20 years, St. Michael’s is expected to save more than $4 million on electricity costs. The parish plans to reinvest in the church and school to further the services offered to the community.
“For me personally, this is one of the most fulfilling projects that Sullivan Solar Power has embarked upon in our 11 years in business,” said Daniel Sullivan, founder and president of Sullivan Solar Power, “My son was baptized at St. Michael’s, so it’s an honor to assist the church in creating a clean energy future for the next generation in our region.”
Sullivan Solar Power has partnered with the parish to further the financial benefit of going solar for the parish and its community members. Sullivan Solar Power will be donating $5,000 to St. Michael’s for every 10 property owners who go solar. Each participant will also receive a $500 discount.
Additionally, Sullivan Solar Power will be hosting a series of mixers and educational seminars at St. Michael’s for community members to join and receive information about St. Michael’s process in going solar, solar technology, incentives, tax credits and upcoming San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) solar policy changes.
The partnership between St. Michael’s and Sullivan Solar Power serves as an excellent example of the goodness that can come when organizations come together for the betterment of the community and environment.
