Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) August 22, 2013 -- Sixty-year-old ice road trucker, Alex Debogorski has been driving professionally for more than four decades. Although he has driven on the most treacherous roads in sub-zero temperatures, Alex believes that more than anything else, distracted driving is killing and injuring people needlessly due to texting and driving.
According to the Center for Disease Control, nine people die from distracted driving and almost 1,100 are hurt each and every day in the United States due to people not paying attention when they are at the wheel.
Alex gets frustrated, “You get one life. Why would you take your hands off the wheel to send a message that can wait? If it’s that urgent, pull over safely and make a call or send the text.”
He continued, “I feel like I have to take a very public stand. I want people young and old go to their computers, tablets and smart phones -- from anyplace but a vehicle -- and type “DontTextAndDrive” on Twitter and Facebook. There is no reason almost 400,000 people should have gotten hurt on the roads last year due to something that could wait. It’s completely preventable.”
"To show support, I’d like people to Tweet me @IceRoadAlex with the hashtag #DontTextAndDrive. I believe we can get at least one million people to show support and bring awareness to one of the easiest ways to be safe on the roads. Just drive.” Alex will be giving away one autographed book a week for the next six weeks from the million he hopes will post to Twitter and Facebook.
