Star Refrigeration Provides Total Solution for British Seafood Company
London, UK (PRWEB) July 16, 2014 -- Star has delivered a Total Solutions project for Young’s Seafood firm Pinneys of Scotland.
Working with fellow Group company Starfrost, Star provided a turnkey refrigeration plant and chilling tunnel package at the Pinneys processing facility in Annan, Dumfriesshire.
Pinneys was looking to accommodate new product ranges transferred to the Annan site from the former Young’s seafood processing facility at Cromer, in Norfolk. In particular the company wanted to increase capacity on a new line of high value steam cooked seafood products, including shrimp, lobster and crab.
Pinneys wanted to upgrade from a manual blast chilling process to a flexible in-line system with energy efficient cooling plant.
With a short lead time of only 12 weeks, a custom designed in-line chiller and packaged refrigeration plant was installed at the Pinneys site. Star was responsible for equipment supply, offloading, installation, commissioning and site management throughout the project.
The Pinneys Total Solutions package features a Starfrost Starlite HT (Hybrid Tunnel) chiller and direct expansion refrigeration plant designed and built by Star.The plant provides 123kW of cooling to the Starfrost HT, which has a chilling capacity of 1,500kg per hour.
Star’s bespoke plant features an air cooled condenser with HMI system controller to maximise efficiency. Control features include electronic expansion valves and variable speed drive on the condenser fans to maximise efficiency.The condenser is located on the roof of the Pinneys factory and features polyester coated aluminium fins to provide protection from the coastal air.

Pinneys supplies smoked Scottish salmon, premium wet fish and seafood products to major retailers. The company is part of Young’s Chilled Division, the UK’s leading producer of seafood products for foodservice and retail markets, including all of the major multiples.
