Las Vegas (PRWEB) June 30, 2015 -- While tropical getaways may be the norm for some vacationers this summer, this idyllic seafront town in the Northeast is not to be overlooked. Newport features some of the region’s best seaside views, luxurious inns and fine-dining establishments. In an effort to ensure travelers don’t miss out on experiencing this piece of heaven on earth, Starpoint Resort Group shares its list of the best events experience this summer in Newport.
Newport Folk Festival
Since its inception in 1959, the Newport Folk Festival has always pushed the boundaries in regards to what its organizers considered folk music. According to Starpoint Resort Group, an eclectic mix of musicians have graced its stages: Bob Dylan performed what many consider his first national show there in 1963; Johnny Cash brought the Man in Black to Rhode Island; and even alt rockers The Pixies went acoustic for their set at the festival. This year’s lineup is just as diverse. From psychedelic rock god Roger Waters to modern folk act Elephant Revival, the Newport Folk Festival will have something for every music lover. The event takes place from July 24 to July 26 at Fort Adams State Park.
Newport Antiques Show
For the avid collector (or window-shopper) of Americana antiquities, the Newport Antiques Show is not to be missed. Starpoint Resort Group considers this show to be one of the nation’s premier antiques venues, with more than 40 of the country's top dealers on hand to present paintings, furniture, folk art, jewelry, and fine and decorative arts. Each year the event organizers also include an art exhibit, and this year the Museum of the American Revolution is loaning pieces from its collection for the show. History buffs and art lovers alike will enjoy the lectures and booth talks offered daily. Starpoint Resort Group shares that all proceeds from the Newport Antiques show will benefit the Newport Historical Society and the Boys & Girls Clubs of Newport County. Visitors can enjoy this event July 24 through 26 at St. George’s School.
Shakespeare in the Vineyard
Hosted on the picturesque grounds of Newport Vineyards, visitors can watch Rhode Island’s "What Cheer, Shakespeare?" perform "The Tempest" on July 24 and 25. “The Tempest” is considered by many to be Shakespeare’s greatest work, and may have been the last play he wrote alone. The doors open at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 7:15 p.m. Starpoint Resort Group recommends guests bring their own lawn chairs or blankets for seats. While visitors cannot bring their own food or drinks, they may purchase both at Fatulli's Bakery & Deli at Newport Vineyards.
