Stauder Technologies’ Tactical Kneeboard Enables Digital Interoperability at Bold Quest Event
St. Peters, MO (PRWEB) March 17, 2015 -- Stauder Technologies teamed with Air USA during a recent test event to provide Close Air Support (CAS) for coalition ground troops demonstrating and testing the latest digital fires technologies. Tasked by the Joint Staff to provide contract Close Air Support (CAS) during a Bold Quest event held at Ft. Benning, Stauder installed their airborne digital fires hardware and software into Air USA’s L-39 aircraft to provide support of the Digitally Aided Close Air Support (DACAS) Block 1standard. Stauder Technologies provided the Tactical Kneeboard that can transmit and receive the required DACAS messages over existing combat net radios. Additionally, the L-39 was equipped with an MX-15 sensor connected to a Hyde and video downlink radio to provide full-motion video to the ground users.
Stauder’s DACAS tactical kneeboard is a self-contained carry-on system that utilizes an Android tablet connected via Wi-Fi to Stauder’s tactical communications smart hub, called Hyde™. The Android tablet hosts software that includes a moving map display, 9 Line brief mission graphics, remote radio programming, and CAS mission execution workflow. Over the course of six days at Fort Benning, the Stauder DACAS tactical kneeboard conducted DACAS missions with ground kits from US and coalition participants, which included US Army, Air Force, Germany, Norway, Australia, and the United Kingdom.
The Hyde™ was designed to enable legacy military equipment and platforms to interface with the latest cutting edge technology available in the commercial marketplace. This allows the military to capitalize on the fast moving Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) marketplace while utilizing their existing, fielded military equipment. The Hyde™ provides a secure wireless or wired connection to commercial end-user devices (tablets, phones, wearable combat computers), allowing operators to connect their own equipment to enable access to full motion video, laser range finders, combat-net radios, and external GPS receivers.
The small, light-weight, rugged and extremely low power Hyde™ is engineered for the ground warrior. Stauder Technologies leverages this same Hyde™ technology for military aircraft, bringing the digital network into virtually any cockpit.
Stauder’s Hyde™ family of products comes integrated with the latest version of the Joint Effects Coordination Link (JECL®) software. Among its many dynamically configured interface features, JECL® supports all tactical protocols and message formats required to conduct digital messaging including video downlink and situational awareness. JECL® has been JITC validated and has met full operational capability with an approved “Authority to Operate” for the USMC.
