StayWell Health Management Unveils Incentives eBook for Employers and Benefit Professionals
St. Paul, MN (PRWEB) July 15, 2013 -- StayWell Health Management announced today that it has developed an eBook that provides guidance for employers and benefit professionals to implement a progress-based incentive strategy as part of a comprehensive workplace health management program. The eBook, “Establishing A Progress-Based Incentive Strategy,” is available online at staywell.com.
According to StayWell, the company developed the eBook in response to customer questions surrounding implementation of outcome-based incentives, one of three broad incentive approaches detailed in the final regulations under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA). StayWell developed the eBook as a step-by-step guide on how to adopt an incentive approach that is safe, effective, participant-centered, timely and equitable.
“StayWell’s commitment to rigor and evidence-based strategies means we are always working to understand the challenges faced by employers and suggest best-practice solutions based on available data,” said David Anderson, Ph.D., chief health officer at StayWell. “We want to focus on the issues most important to the industry and our clients and, currently, that includes significant attention on incentive strategies, especially outcome-based incentives.”
“As we consult with our clients about the shifting policy landscape and its effect on incentives,” Anderson continued, “we find that employers have many questions about how to implement a strategy that genuinely moves the needle toward better population health, but does so in a way that is safe and fair to all of their employees. Our comprehensive eBook on ‘progress-based incentives’ — a term we coined to better characterize an approach addressing these multiple priorities — gives employers the first practical guide for how to implement such a strategy.”
StayWell has long advocated for a reward structure that recognizes not only those who satisfy a specific health standard or medically required alternative, but also all individuals who make meaningful progress toward achieving biometric targets regardless of their starting point.
The eBook, which is available free of charge on StayWell's website, explains in simple terms the basics of participatory incentives and health-contingent incentives — which are then further divided into activity-only and outcome-based incentives — and offers recommendations for a phased approach that employers can follow to implement an incentive strategy that captures the best features of both approaches.
The eBook also provides specifics on establishing biometric targets allowed by the legislation; why moving an entire employee population toward the biometric targets outlined in the ACA can present both a formidable challenge and a significant opportunity for employers; and alternative approaches for collecting biometric screening measures.
