StayWell Partners with Kurbo Health to Offer Weight Management Support for Families and Children
Yardley, Pa. (PRWEB) August 30, 2016 -- StayWell, a health engagement solutions company, announced today that it has partnered with Kurbo Health to offer a health coaching and weight-loss program that’s made for children, teens, and families as part of the workplace health and well-being programs it delivers to employers across the country. The mobile-based program, developed Kurbo Health, addresses overweight and obesity risks through a digital coaching platform that features gamification and family social support.
According to StayWell Vice President of Product Development, Hans Hage, the company recently completed a 12-week pilot program for a national client using the Kurbo Health coaching platform, and saw notable outcomes among participants, including:
• 94 percent of participants aged 8 to 19 successfully lost or maintained weight, and also reduced their body mass index (BMI), and
• 90 percent of parents reported that the entire family is now making healthier food choices because of the program.
“Having the support of friends and family when making lifestyle changes is important, no matter how old you are. With obesity on the rise across the United States, it’s important for us to continue to bring products and services to market that blend the best of technology and behavioral science to extend beyond workplace programs to homes and families,” said Hage. “The mobile, interactive approach of the Kurbo Health platform connects readily with kids and parents in a way that encourages the whole family to make healthier choices around food and physical activity.”
Data from all Kurbo Health program participants shows similar results to the StayWell pilot program, with 88 percent of kids who used the Kurbo Health platform losing weight and reducing BMI. In addition, children reported higher levels of self-confidence and happiness, and parents reported fewer fights about food, and less stress in the household.
“Like StayWell, our program is based on the science of behavior change with the technology approach that appeals to kids and is convenient for parents,” said Kurbo’s Co-founder and CEO, Joanna Strober. “Our mobile platform is appropriate for families on the go and the gamification elements appeal to and engage kids in ways that can improve overall health and well-being for families now, and in the future.”
The Kurbo Health program includes weekly, one-on-one video coaching and goal-setting; e-mail and text messages; a food and fitness tracker designed specifically for children and teens; and nutritional education in the form of games and videos to keep kids motivated.
