STEAM for Educators at the Boulder Mini Maker Faire

Boulder, Colo. (PRWEB) January 20, 2015 -- The Boulder Mini Maker Faire announces the Innovation in Education Summit, a fantastical opportunity for educators of all types to connect to STEAM innovations, content and techniques. (STEAM – science, technology, engineering, arts and math).

The Summit is co-located with the exciting Boulder Mini Maker Faire and will host a weekend's worth of presentations, discussions and hands-on workshops during which teachers can earn up to 11 continuing education credits while learning how to include making, design thinking, and innovation in their classrooms.

It's only $30 for a weekend educator pass (which includes full admission to all the Mini Maker Faire activities, too!), making it the least expensive and most fun CE credits teachers are likely to find anywhere. Get credit for going to workshops – and even for browsing the dozens of hands-on maker exhibits at the Faire!

"By hosting this opportunity for teachers to get inspired and learn how to include innovation and design thinking in their classrooms, we hope we can help make makers," says Mary Anne Zacek, co-founder of Maker Boulder, the organization sponsoring and managing the event.

The Innovation in Education summit includes over 15 events on the Saturday and Sunday of the Faire, including interactive and hands-on presentations from local innovators and national thought leaders.

Highlights include:

  • Kickoff panel that includes Joey Hudy, (spokesperson for the White House Maker Faire and co-launcher of the marshmallow cannon with President Obama), Mackintosh Academy Head of School, JJ Morrow, and Patty Quinones, Director of Innovation for St. Vrain School District.
  • Hands-on technology workshops by local startups Modular Robotics and SparkFun.
  • Design Thinking panel with k-12 education thought leaders, Coeylen Berry and Alex Hernandez
  • Prosthetic arm engineering challenge and curriculum with Colorado MESA.
  • Workshop and free "ScriBot" robot kit with Dr. Karl Wendt, former "Hacker in Residence" at Kahn Academy.
