Steel Frame of the Venue Hosting Super Bowl XLVIII Fabricated by Canam Group
Point of Rocks, MD (PRWEB) January 30, 2014 -- Next February 2, MetLife Stadium will host the first Super Bowl in NFL history to be played in an open-air venue, located in a city where the average temperature at this time of year hovers around -4°C. Jointly owned by the New York Giants and the New York Jets , the 82,500-seat stadium officially opened its doors in April 2010.
Structal-Heavy Steel Construction (Structal), a business unit of Canam Group, was awarded the CAN$100 million contract to fabricate the stadium's structural frame in 2007. The steel components were fabricated at the Canam Group plants in Saint-Gédéon-de-Beauce, Quebec, and Point of Rocks, Maryland.
Described as a high-tech showcase disguised as a football field, MetLife Stadium has won many steel construction awards in both Canada and the United States. Structal and Canam Group have collaborated in the construction of over 70 stadiums and arenas across North America to date, 24 of which are home to professional sports teams.
