Steel Pony Inspires Their “Tribe” With Spring 2014’s Ethnic Mix Collection
Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) March 26, 2014 -- Leading Sustainable clothing brand, Steel Pony, makes Spring 2014 Ethnic Mix Collection available to the public and shares the inspiration behind the season’s inception.
Westernized tribal chic style has exploded all over the main spreads of fashion magazines and roared down runways worldwide, hitting a fever pitch in popularity for the Spring 2014 season. Steel Pony designer & owner Joanne Litz heard the call through her own new found interest: djembe drumming.
“I am not a designer who creates based solely on what is trending. I prefer to set trends, rather than follow, but this trend just spoke to me” says Litz.
This year Litz’s husband and co-owner of Steel Pony, Dennis Wolk, surprised her with the djembe drum she had been swooning over for months, as the perfect birthday gift. Learning to explore rhythm and patterning in sound resonated with the textile artist in a way she could not have predicted. This sparked the flame for her Spring collections inspiration: taking the rhythm of tribal drums into garments via pattern. In true Steel Pony form the patterns are created by various hand dye techniques and a stylized print all over the fabric. Pairing this sensibility with the abstract angles and the well known ageless bohemian vibe, the company is focusing on as it transitions forward, resulting in the thirteen piece women’s wear Spring Line: The Ethnic Mix Collection. The spring line was unveiled to the public this month (March 2014) and is now available for purchase by visiting the website here
For twenty years and counting Steel Pony has created a name for itself through its use of color via innovative hand dying techniques. This season is no exception. Creating a modern spin on the ancient art of resist dying, popularized and perfected in other parts of the world like Africa and Asia. These garments hit bold notes with pops of color flying out from darkened backdrops on abstractly cut linen pieces. Traditional woodblock prints flicker and flow in breathy rayon and mint melds to lilac and gray in perfect harmony using the shibori technique - reborn.
