Stephen M. Komie Announces Candidacy for 3rd Vice President of the Illinois State Bar Association
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) October 02, 2017 -- Chicago Attorney Stephen M. Komie is proud to announce his candidacy for the position of 2018 3rd Vice President of the Illinois State Bar Association (ISBA). Mr. Komie has been an active member of the ISBA for more than 40 years and has served in various leadership capacities within the Association.
He is currently an elected member of the ISBA Assembly and has served on the ISBA Board of Governors for 18 years. In addition, he was elected as the Association’s Secretary in 1996 and Treasurer in 2003. Mr. Komie has received the ISBA Board of Governors Award for Service to the Bar, and was selected by the Association as an ambassador to the rededication of the Magna Carta in 2015. He has been actively engaged in developing the "Attorney Bill of Rights" with regards to ARDC violations and lobbying against taxes on legal services.
Attorney Stephen M. Komie is the founder of and principal attorney at Komie and Associates, a Chicago law firm that handles criminal defense, civil litigation, and family law matters, among many others. He has worked on cases throughout the state of Illinois, giving him invaluable insight into the issues all Illinois attorneys face.
Mr. Komie received a Bachelor of Arts degree as well as a Master of Arts degree from the University of Arizona. He earned his Juris Doctor from DePaul University College of Law in 1976 and was admitted to the Illinois Bar the same year. He is also admitted to practice before the United States District Courts in the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois, Northern District of Indiana, Eastern District of Michigan, Eastern District of Missouri, appellate courts for the 6th, 7th, and 8th circuits, United States Tax Court, the Illinois Supreme Court, and United States Supreme Court.
In addition to his contributions to the ISBA, Mr. Komie has been recognized with many other honors and distinctions, including as a Top Rated Super Lawyer since 2003. He has received the American Trial Lawyers Association National Public Service Award for Pro Bono Legal Representation. He is also an active member of the Chicago Bar Association, DuPage County Bar Association, Illinois Trial Lawyers Association, Women’s Bar Association of Illinois, the Justinian Society and the Appellate Lawyers.
“As ISBA 3rd Vice President, I will act against the unauthorized practice by lawyers and internet services who are not licensed in Illinois, work to provide high-quality Continuing Legal Education (CLE) for attorneys in both upstate and downstate Illinois, particularly as it relates to the new e-filing requirements, and recruit new lawyers to the ISBA,” Komie says. In addition, Mr. Komie is committed to representing the interests of the ISBA before the Illinois General Assembly and protecting the rights of Illinois attorneys in disciplinary proceedings.
