Stetson University Named a Best for Vets: Business School
DeLand, Fla. (PRWEB) March 25, 2015 -- Stetson University School of Business Administration has been named a Best for Vets: Business Schools 2015 by Military Times. Stetson’s is one of only 75 graduate business schools in the country to make the list.
“It is an honor to be recognized by Military Times for our commitment to the nation’s veterans,” said Tom Schwarz, D.B.A., dean of the Stetson University School of Business Administration. “Veterans are already well educated in terms of discipline and leadership. Because of their experience, veterans typically make great students, and after they gain a business perspective and learn to apply their skills in a civilian context they tend to be very successful.”
The Military Times Best for Vets: Business Schools distinction recognizes business schools for their commitment to providing opportunities to America’s veterans. Military Times’ selection focused on veteran culture and curriculum, cost in the context of military and veteran’s benefits, overall veteran policies, and publicly available quality measures.
More than 150 schools completed an annual survey for this distinction. Only institutions that said they offer graduate-level business degrees, and that participated in the rigorous Best for Vets: Colleges survey were considered in this review, according to Military Times.
Some of the findings from the survey include:
• 40 percent of business schools have a service member, veteran or military spouse in a senior leadership position; another 40 percent have such a senior leader at the larger university.
• Nearly 60 percent of graduate business programs accept recommendations from the American Council on Education on awarding academic credit for military training (limitations are common).
• Only about eight percent of schools waive the requirement for GMAT or GRE scores for vets, although about a quarter of schools gave vets some sort of admissions preference.
• More than 33 percent of schools waive or discount application fees for veterans or service members.
• 75 percent of business schools said their larger university has a veteran or military group.
