Stopping the Bully on the School Bus
BOWIE, Md. (PRWEB) June 07, 2016 -- One out of four students report being bullied during the school year, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. But what is being done to stop this rising epidemic?
Dr. Mildred Peyton decided enough was enough after uncovering a slew of evidence that awareness and conversation are key to eliminating the problem. Her new book, “A Bully on the School Bus” is a tool for parents and children to use to start the conversation about bullying, with the goal of teaching children how to treat others with respect, and how to interfere safely in bullying situations. The book also works to help children understand the effects of bullying, and allows parents to more easily answer their child’s questions on the topic.
“The more that bullying is talked about at home and in school, the more confident children will be in stepping in when bullying is occurring,” Peyton said. “My hope is that ‘A Bully on the School Bus’ makes those conversations easier.”

About the author
Dr. Mildred D. Peyton was born in West Africa, Sierra Leone and came to the United States at the age of seven. As a young child, Dr. Peyton’s parents and grandparents instilled the value of education in her. With that value, she received two bachelor’s degrees (in a dual degree program) in sociology and social work from the University of Maryland - Eastern Shore and Salisbury University. She went on to pursue her master’s degree in counseling psychology from Bowie State University, completing the degree in 2009. Finally, Dr. Peyton graduated from the doctoral program in human and social services, with a concentration in social policy analysis and planning from Walden University. Dr. Peyton’s doctoral dissertation study, “Exploring the Meaning of School Bullying Among Parents of Victimized Children,” along with the inspiration of her two young daughters, led her to write “A Bully on the School Bus.”
