Storysack® at the End of the Rainbow for Ugandan Hospital
(PRWEB UK) 2 October 2013 -- When the founder of a play room at Kagando Hospital in Uganda received a gift from her friend, little did she know how big of an impact it would make to the children’s lives at the hospital.
Earlier this year, Rita Miller, the founder of The Rainbow Club play room, was sent a selection of Storysacks® by her friend, Jacqueline. Ms Miller had set up The Rainbow Club in 2012 to provide a much needed play and learning area for children staying at the hospital. The Club has also introduced the concept of play therapy to help the children in their recovery process, but as this form of therapy is new to the hospital, it is unable to offer funds to help The Rainbow Club.
When Storysack® heard where Jacqueline’s purchases were heading, the company donated a Solo the Penguin Storysack® to Ms Miller and The Rainbow Room.
Rachel Porter, the brand manager for Storysack® said, “When Jacqueline told us where the Storysacks® were going, sending a donation was the least we could do. It’s fantastic to hear about the work Rita and her team are doing in Uganda, and we are pleased that Storysack® can play a small part in making a difference to the children’s lives.”
Rita, who also supports several other projects in Uganda and oversees improvements in the hospital’s clinical practice, wrote to Storysack® to thank them for the donation:
“Ugandans love a story, and as the children miss out on schooling whilst they’re here (if they go in the first place), then we’re able to do a bit of teaching here as well.”
“It’s just lovely to see both young and old enjoy play, to listen to their laughter and witness the wonder on their faces when soapy bubbles are blown and float away or when a story from the wonderful Storysack® is read.”
Rita Miller is a British nurse volunteering at the hospital through Friends of Kagando, a UK based support charity for Kagando Hospital and Rural Development Centre Kasese District, Western Uganda. You can follow Rita's journey on her blog.
