Strategic Healthcare Group Increases Its Clinical Experts
Indianapolis, IN (PRWEB) June 17, 2015 -- Strategic Healthcare Group (http://www.bloodmanagement.com) has continued to build and expand its clinical staff to help hospitals and health systems transform transfusion safety practices for greatest results. The company is pleased to announce the availability of four physician consultants with varying clinical backgrounds who are committed to evidence-based patient blood management programs.
The physicians include Carolyn Burns, M.D., Jay Menitove, M.D., Peter Mazolewski, M.D., FACS, and Sarah Daccarett, M.D.
Dr. Burns is a board certified pathologist (AP/CP) who served as Medical Director of the Jewish Hospital Healthcare System, Department of Pathology (Louisville, KY) from 1991 to 2011, including the medical directorship of the Transfusion and Tissue Services for this five-hospital system. Additionally, she is an assistant clinical professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Louisville and until recently, had been the medical advisor for the Clinical Laboratory Science Program. Dr. Burns is an inventive and passionate advocate for blood management and has worked with Strategic Healthcare Group (SHG) in a variety of capacities since 2011.
Dr. Menitove joined SHG following his retirement from the Community Blood Center of Greater Kansas City where he served as CEO for nearly 17 years. He is past president of AABB and has chaired the HHS Advisory Committee on Blood and Tissue Safety and Availability. As an internist and hematologist, Dr. Menitove extended his background to focus on mitigation of transfusion-transmitted disease risks and appropriate utilization of blood and blood components (now considered patient blood management). He believes Transfusion Medicine is an exciting and important discipline that continuously seeks improvements in patient outcomes and donor care.
Dr. Mazolewski is a board certified general surgeon who maintains a busy office-based practice and performs a wide array of services including acute care surgery, consulting on blood management issues, and continuing to be an army reservist surgeon with the 352nd CASH out of Dublin, CA. He became the director of Blood Management and VTE prevention in 2008 at John Muir Health, a large referral 2 hospital system in the East Bay Area, which was one of SHG’s first clients. He held that position until late 2011 and during that time John Muir Health experienced a significant reduction in both blood usage and in VTE events, resulting in the presentation of both programs at the national NSQIP meeting in Chicago in July 2010. Dr. Mazolewski feels very strongly that he can have a positive impact on thousands of patient’s lives by teaching blood management principles to their treating physicians.
Dr. Daccarett is board certified in clinical pathology. She currently advises on effective laboratory test utilization so that physicians can provide healthcare that is high in quality, reliable and low in cost. She was raised in the mountain west and completed both her engineering and medical doctorate degrees at the University of Utah and then completed training in Pathology at the University of Utah and ARUP National Laboratories in Salt Lake City. Dr. Daccarett brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in analyzing and standardizing physician ordering patterns, as well as in the development and implementation of evidence-based decision support tools that deliver high value.
The availability of these clinical experts demonstrate SHG’s ongoing commitment to leading blood management and transfusion safety programs with hospitals and health systems across the United States.
“SHG dovetails perfectly with my interests. Using their platform, we are able to use results from multiple recently reported transfusion medicine-related randomized controlled trials to improve patient outcomes, work with our clinically focused colleagues, and have a meaningful role in healthcare's transition from volume based (more services) to value based (those giving the best outcomes) medicine,” states Dr. Menitove.
Strategic Healthcare Group was the first company to help hospitals improve blood utilization through clinical change management using evidence-based education and benchmarking data. This team of clinical consultants leads hospitals to transform transfusion practices.
“Having helped hospitals establish blood management programs since 2006, Strategic Healthcare Group continues to build and expand its clinical expertise to help hospitals maximize the full benefits of a comprehensive blood management program,” says General Manager Gary Hood.
The goal of a comprehensive blood management program is to tackle/reduce unnecessary and inappropriate blood use in order to optimize patient safety outcomes. Hospitals that partner with SHG to implement such programs also realize significant cost savings in a shorter period of time than doing it themselves, creating a win-win for both hospitals and patients.
