According to court documents, New Jersey Superior Court Judge Brian R. Martinotti has designated a number of Stryker Rejuvenate hip replacement lawsuits for early mediation, and has ordered that a mediation session be held no later than December 15, 2013. Meanwhile, the federal multidistrict litigation is scheduled to hold its initial status conference on September 9, 2013.
According to the Stryker hip recall notice, some 20,000 Rejuvenate and ABG II hip stems were sold worldwide prior to the recall announcement in July 2012. The company has warned that the metal components may fret and corrode at the modular-neck junction, and possibly generate excessive amounts of metallic debris. This places recipients at risk for pain, swelling and adverse local tissue reactions. Plaintiffs in Stryker hip lawsuits have allegedly suffered metallosis, necrosis, osteolysis and other serious complications. According to their complaints, many of these patients have undergone revision surgery to have their failing Stryker hip removed, while others will likely need revision surgery in the future.
