STS and Micross Deploy the IBM Column Grid Array Technology
Milpitas, CA (PRWEB) March 09, 2016 -- Silicon Turnkey Solutions (STS) and Micross Components are pleased to announce the successful re-commissioning of the process line to manufacture and rework Column Grid Arrays (CGA’s) acquired from IBM.
“We are delighted to once again make this assembly process available to the Aerospace and Defense community,” stated Zef Malik, GM of STS “we appreciate the absolute level of performance that is required in these applications and firmly believe that the IBM technology and tool set is without parallel.”
“It has taken several months to relocate and reconfigure the CGA line from Bromont, Quebec, but with the active support of both IBM and the component modification engineering team at Micross, we have an automated process in place that perfectly meets the high integrity, low volume and complex product mix needs of our customer base,” added Marti McCurdy of STS. “The team has already successfully built I mm pitch arrays in excess of 1,752 columns.”
Peter Tollafield and his team have headed up the Micross engineering team. “Our goal has been to combine the specific IBM component specifications (10/90 Sn/Pb columns and Pd paste) with IBM’s automated assembly equipment (auto column loader, assembly tooling, extraction equipment….) supplemented by state-of-the-art tools and inspection equipment. I was delighted that the feedback from our recent DLA audit was so positive on the Process Monitoring controls that have been incorporated in the line. We have invested in the latest X-RAY technology and when we take delivery of our custom-designed AOI device, we will be able to provide data on 100% of all arrays that we assemble, covering eight parameters from package warpage to the coplanarity and pitch of every column.”
