Students Recognized for Campus Leadership
Newark, OH (PRWEB) May 31, 2014 -- Students from Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University at Newark were recognized this month for their contributions to the campus community. The Office of Student Life presents student leadership awards annually to show support for student organizations as well as encourage further excellence in student programming and leadership.
Ryan Riggs, a senior nursing student from Granville, received the Kelly Saffle Leadership Award given to a COTC student for demonstration of leadership within the campus community.
Shannon Wolverton, a senior from Pataskala majoring in English and Spanish, received the William Kilpatrick Leadership Award given to an Ohio State Newark student who exemplifies strong and consistent leadership in the campus community.
Nicole Cotton, an Ohio State sophomore in Psychology from Pickerington, received the Up & Coming Leadership Award presented to a first or second year COTC or Ohio State Newark student who has demonstrated active involvement in campus programs and student organizations.
Nick Nixon, a freshman Biology major at Ohio State from St. Louisville, received the Outstanding Student Athlete Award. Nixon played on the 2013-14 Titans men’s basketball team that finished the season 14-7 and made it to the ORC tournament championship game.
Many student organizations were also recognized for positive impacts on the campus and surrounding community: Introspect Psychology Club, Directions Gay-Straight Alliance and Psi Chi International Honor Society.
The Office of Student Life provides services and programs, encourages student learning in and out of the classroom and develops a diverse community which is educationally purposeful, open, just, disciplined, caring and celebrative. There are over 50 student organizations that offer student co-curricular opportunities to enjoy the whole collegiate experience. Participation in student organizations is open to all COTC and Ohio State Newark students.
