Studies Weekly Celebrates 30 Years of Publishing
Orem, Utah (PRWEB) January 23, 2015 -- Studies Weekly is celebrating 30 years of publishing this year! The first Studies Weekly classroom periodical was published in the 1984-85 school year in Utah. Today nearly 2.6 million students read fun and engaging Studies Weekly materials to fulfill their science and social studies curriculum requirements.
Studies Weekly was founded by Paul Thompson, who passed away in 2013. Aside from being an entrepreneur, Paul was an artist. He was the president of the art club in his school and illustrated many of the the first Studies Weekly publications. Knowing of his artistic background, the employees felt it appropriate to create a tribute to him in the form of artwork. They decided to commemorate this occasion by commissioning company illustrator Jamin LeFave to create a beautiful painting of Paul Thompson.
Mr. LeFave has a rich background in traditional painting. In 2005 he completed his studies at Brigham Young University, earning his bachelors degree in Visual Arts with an emphasis in Illustration. In 2008 he began a Hudson River Fellowship and studied classical painting privately with award-winning artist Patrick Devonas. To view Jamin's blog, click here.
The painting was recently finished and hangs at the Studies Weekly headquarters. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the dedication and innovation of Mr. Thompson, inspiring employees to pursue their dreams. To see the unveiling and presentation of the painting, click here.
About Studies Weekly Periodicals:
Traditional textbooks cost up to $80 per student. By contrast, the price of Studies Weekly can be as low as $6 per student per year, or about $47 over the 8-year time frame in which textbooks are expected to be used by schools. Studies Weekly subscriptions also include access to estudiesweekly.com, an interactive experience that offers research-based tools for teachers and rich learning opportunities for students.
Nationwide, 30 percent of elementary schools have at least one classroom using Studies Weekly for their core materials in social studies and/or science. Studies Weekly Publishing, continues to present these innovative instructional materials to boards of education for adoption in states where traditional textbooks have been the only option for decades.
"Too many schools are looking at their finances and seeing textbook costs as a major burden. This causes a lot of programs to atrophy as districts strive to save money," said Ed Rickers, president of Studies Weekly Publishing. "Studies Weekly offers a program with superior content that has saved some school districts millions of dollars. Because we have the flexibility of periodical publishing, Studies Weekly will always be relevant, timely and up to state education standards."
