Study Finds Detroit Among Most Congested Cities: Car Accident Attorney Gary Bloom Comments on How to Stay Safe
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) April 30, 2015 -- Commenting on a recent MLive article about traffic congestion across the Detroit metropolitan area, Detroit car accident attorney Gary Bloom today stressed the importance of remaining distraction-free and driving defensively while dealing with rush-hour traffic in Detroit, Livonia, Sterling Heights and other nearby communities.
Bloom, principal attorney at the Law Offices of Gary Bloom, based his comments on a MLive article published March 31, “Study: Detroit among top 50 worst U.S. cities for traffic.” The report details findings of a TomTom GPS company study ranking Detroit as the 29th most congested city for drivers across the United States.
“It’s no secret that rush-hour traffic can create dangerous conditions for drivers,” Bloom said. “A congested highway can agitate drivers and make them more aggressive. It may be tempting to check your phone, text, browse the internet and engage in other distracting behaviors while in traffic. But in an instant, aggressive or distracted driving can lead to a serious accident involving another vehicle.”
According to the report, drivers throughout the Detroit area are delayed 16 minutes per 30 minute commute, a five percent increase in 2014 compared to 2013. The TomTom study ranked Detroit as the 29th most congested city for commuters in the United States and 120th worldwide.
The MLive article said that GPS manufacturer TomTom found the busiest time on Detroit roadways to be Thursday morning and evening commutes while congestion during Monday evening and Friday morning commutes remained the lowest.
Bloom recommended that drivers who are stuck in traffic slow down and stay calm. He added that drivers should be extra defensive, be prepared for unexpected maneuvers by other drivers and keep extra distance between vehicles.
“Drivers have a responsibility to safely share the roads with one another,” Bloom said. “But some drivers will ignore the rules of the road or make careless and reckless choices. That’s when serious accidents happen. Anyone involved in a rush-hour rear-end crash or intersection collision should seek the advice of legal counsel. An attorney can hold the responsible driver accountable and help the injured victim obtain compensation and closure.”
