Succeed Management Solutions, LLC Now Offers Confined Space Entry Training to Support Employers in Their Risk Management Efforts
Portland, OR (PRWEB) November 24, 2014 -- Earlier this year, a 51-year old worker was killed when he was engulfed in flowing grain, inside a grain elevator (a confined space). He was killed when he was attempting to remove a jam from a chute. In September, OSHA reported that the deceased worker’s company had failed to complete a confined space entry permit. Recently, OSHA decided that the lack of a confined space entry permit, in addition to other violations (such as failure to provide fall protection) would result in a proposed penalty of over $120,000 dollars (from OSHA QuickTakes, published October 1, 2014)
Employers that do not maintain safe working conditions face large fines, safety violations, and repeat violations if previous violations were not rectified. Many industries have workers that must carry out their jobs in confined spaces. A confined space is any enclosure that is large enough for a worker to enter and perform work, but which has limited means of entry and exit, and is not designed for continuous occupancy. Confined spaces can be underground, inside large containers, tanks, ducts, or pits, and can be stationary or mobile. Employers must comply with specific regulations that apply to these potentially dangerous areas. Many confined spaces require entry-specific permits that outline pre-entry requirements and testing results.
All employees who enter into confined spaces must be instructed on the hazards involved, the necessary precautions to avoid those hazards, and all required personal protective equipment and emergency procedures.
In order to help employers train their employees on the unique hazards associated with confined spaces, Succeed developed a Confined Space Training course. Now employers have the opportunity to assign their workers this training through the Training Track™ application. This training will help reduce fatalities and injuries, as well as fines and citations due to improper confined space procedures.
Training Track™ is one of the available applications in Succeed’s web-based Risk Management Center. The Risk Management Center also contains other OSHA-required programs, training materials, and integrated software solutions.
