Suffolk University Names Marisa Kelly of Ithaca College as Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost
Boston, MA (PRWEB) April 28, 2014 -- Suffolk University President James McCarthy has announced the appointment of Marisa Kelly as senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, effective Aug. 1, 2014.
Kelly, whose academic discipline is political science, joins the University from Ithaca College, where she currently serves as provost and vice president for educational affairs.
“Marisa Kelly is a strong academic leader with impeccable credentials and keen insight,” said Suffolk President James McCarthy. “She will play an important role in a distinguished Suffolk University leadership team working to support the realization of the University’s strategic plan and its mission of empowering graduates to succeed.”
Kelly will oversee the University’s three academic deans, the vice president for enrollment, the dean of students, the vice provost for student success, the vice provost for curriculum and faculty development, and the associate provost for institutional research and assessment.

At Ithaca College, Kelly provided leadership for the advancement of the institution's educational mission, including its strategic plan, IC 20/20. She collaborated with faculty and staff to gain approval of and implement Ithaca’s first college-wide general education curriculum. During her tenure, Ithaca College established a new Center for Faculty Excellence and created a new centralized student advising center, while reorganizing student support services to advance student success.
Before joining Ithaca College, Marisa Kelly served as dean and McQuinn Distinguished Chair of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of St. Thomas, Minnesota; senior associate dean, associate dean and associate professor of Political Science at College of the Pacific, University of the Pacific, Stockton, California.
Kelly holds a PhD in Political Science from the University of Kansas, an MA in Political Theory from San Francisco State University, and a BA in Government from California State University at Sacramento.
Among the courses she has taught are United States National Government, Legislative Process, the Policy Process for Lawyers, Urban Government, Feminist Political Thought and Social Justice Theory.
