Sujata Tibrewala, Current Artist in Residence at LFA, Chicago Pays an Ode to Indian Independence All Through August Through a New Exhibit
Cupertino California (PRWEB) August 24, 2016 -- It’s been a glorious 70 years, since India gained Independence from the British Empire. On August 15, 1947, generations of Indians witnessed and experienced for the first time ever, the meaning of what it is to be free in one’s own land. Indians celebrate this historic event each year on the day with great pride all across the world. Artist Sujata Tibrewala, plans to extend the celebrations beyond just one day, with a new exhibition. Some of her artworks featured in the exhibition commemorate the harbingers of Indian independence. The artist through her paintings reminds the world that such an important event in the world history was achieved by non-violent means. She contrasts it with the world today where illogical violence is over riding the certainty of our lives. Her works remind us the power of peaceful protest, a rarity in the contemporary world. The entire exhibition is centered on the theme of Independence through peaceful means. The artist both through reality and metaphors shows that a silent protest has more worth than a protest that pulls down hopes and dreams. One of the most important works showcased in the month long exhibition is an acrylic on canvas painting of Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhiji, as he’s respectfully remembered world over, was an eminent leader of Indian Independence Movement. His non-violent means were instrumental in helping India attain an independent status. The artist invokes the same principles and philosophies in the world today, which is been reduced to a place full of conflicting and often volatile ideologies. The powerful message on the painting, said by Gandhiji reads: ‘There is enough in the world, for one’s need, but not enough for greed.’ The world leader with his sharp vision, gave to the contemporary world another wisdom. The ecological balance is maintained when there is a respect towards earth's resources, not when humans live a life of excesses. Wasteful living will lead to a gradual decay, a problem that's now presenting itself in mammoth proportions.
The artist wants that by remembering meaningful messages such as these, the world grows into a cohesive universe that celebrates each other’s independence and resources and not resents it. The idea of a future world full of peace may seem impossible but Tibrewala through her art wants us to aim for it.

Sujata Tibrewala, a self-taught artist come engineer remarkably embodies the indomitable spirit of human existence through her works. Her works revolve around the theme of eco-feminism. She has exhibited her artworks in some of the most reputed venues around the globe such as University of Illinois, Chicago, Raw San Jose, Parallax Art Fair London, the Regional Commission of Arts St Louis, Life Force Arts Chicago, Mindworks Gallery Chesterfield, St. Louis Artists' Guild, Chesterfield Arts, Art World Association, Women's Caucus for the Arts, MySLART and Lalit Kala Academy, Delhi. She moved to the USA in 2010 from India and practices her art form at the Bay Area, CA, where she resides presently.
