Summer Camp Students Will Design California’s First Provider Enrollment Website
Edmond, OK (PRWEB) April 26, 2014 -- EMR Technical Solutions, LLC (EMRTS), OKC Python Computer Camp (OKCPythonCC) and local high school seniors are collaborating to create a healthcare provider enrollment site for California. Students will create the website from the ground up during OKCPythonCC’s summer camp this June.
Medicaid and Medicare applications have skyrocketed in California. More than 20 million people in California receive either Medicaid or Medicare benefits, according to the Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation (Kaiser).
And the costs incurred with implementing the claims are not cheap. Kaiser estimates more than $400 billion is spent nationwide. Much if this money is spent on overhead, such as enrollment websites and contractor fees.
Even when the websites are created, they are often difficult to use, and the language is filled with legalistic verbiage. Some states don’t have an enrollment website.
Currently, the California Department of Healthcare Services does not have a unified website, allowing healthcare professionals to enroll in the state’s Medicare and Medicaid programs. Instead, physicians and organizations must use the older, pen-and-paper method to apply.
EMTS and OKCPythonCC envision a system that will bring state services and medical providers together. The new website will simplify the application, expedite enrollments and provide an easy to navigate system that even the most tech-challenged provider can utilize – all at a significant cost reduction to taxpayers.
EMRTS and OKCPythonCC plans to accomplish this during a two-week summer camp. High school seniors will learn Python programming using Raspberry Pi computers, which they will use to design and build the website.
“Python is the language the world is going to,” Counts said. “It’s a great first language to learn.”
Information Technology (IT) experts will train students and oversee the project.

About OKC Python Computer Camp
OKC Computer Camp (OKCPythonCC) is an annual summer day camp, designed to give junior high and high school students, ages 11 and older, an edge in computer software and design. Information Technology (IT) experts teach students computer programming using Python’s open source software (OSS) language.
This year, OKCPythonCC will be held from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. June 9-20 (excluding weekends) at the University of Central Oklahoma (UCO) in Edmond, Oklahoma.
At the end of each camp, students will have practical knowledge of Python and computer programming; know how to work in a team environment using self-motivation to design, create, and deploy a web site; understand how the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) effectively works and helps make a positive contribution within a business environment; learn how technical teams work together to bring about a common goal; use the SDLC process to create a website that is dynamic from a database perspective and functional from an end user perspective; and understand that creative input in a team helps make positive contributions not only to business but to society in general.

The Raspberry Pi is a credit-card-sized single-board computer developed in the UK by the Raspberry Pi Foundation with the intention of promoting the teaching of basic computer science in schools.
