SunsetFinances.com Proudly Salutes British Veteran Who’s Funeral Was Packed Due to a Call on Facebook
New York, NY (PRWEB) July 28, 2013 -- A Mail Online article, written by Kerry McDermott on 7/17/2013, tells the story of Rodney “Vic’ Silvester’s funeral after dying of cancer at the age of 67. The funeral was attended by “scores” of people and included a British flag draped across the coffin.
Mr. Silvester was a British Navy veteran with only one living relative. John Harper, Silvester’s second cousin, was the only family member at the funeral. Silvester lived at Woodland Court residential care home since diagnosed with cancer. It was the care providers who initially sent out the call for mourners, as they were concerned there would be no one at the funeral.
Care staff contacted the Supporting Veterans in Care Facebook page. The British Legion and the Submariner’s Association helped to spread the word as well. Mr. Silvester served on the HMS Dolphin as well as submarines HMS Odin and HMS Dreadnought.
John Harper, Silvester’s second cousin, was quoted as saying, "Rod would have been chuffed to bits and so would his dad. He would have loved every bit of it." The ceremony ended with a procession to his burial plot at Fareham Cemetery.
The Editor of Sunset Finances is happy to know that there are people in the world – at the care home as well as in the organizations that spread the word - that would go out of their way to honor a veteran they didn’t know.
SunsetFinances.com is proud to commemorate the life and death of Rodney "Vic" Silvester, of the British Navy. Also noteworthy are the people who made sure that this serviceman was honored at his funeral.
