Super Bowl 2015: Hotel Rates in Phoenix Skyrocket
(PRWEB) January 26, 2015 -- Diehard football fans of the Seattle Seahawks or New England Patriots who are looking for a last-minute room in Phoenix for the Super Bowl next Sunday better steel themselves for some major financial shock at the check-in counter. In response to the big game on February 1, hotels in the area are raising their rates by up to 1000%.
A recent survey conducted by TravelMag.com found that around 10% of hotels in the Phoenix area currently still have rooms available for the long Super Bowl weekend of January 30 through February 2, 2015. On average, these accommodations with sought-after vacancies are charging 364% more than usual.
Some hotels, however, are jacking up their rates much more. One example is the Hotel San Carlos, a historic hotel in the heart of Phoenix. Here, an overnight stay during Super Bowl weekend will cost football fans $859 for a double room. That price tag represents a rate hike of over 500% more than usual. Another good case in point is the Radisson Hotel Phoenix North. Located in the Sonoran Desert region, this establishment is charging $1295 per night for a guest room over the Super Bowl weekend. That’s almost 1000% more than its regular rates.
To secure the area’s least expensive room, a visiting Super Bowl attendee will currently have to spend around $250 per night. That price point will get a fan a motel or low-budget hotel room in Tempe, approximately 25 miles from the University of Phoenix stadium. Football fanatics who are seeking more comfortable rooms rated at least 3 stars will find them on the outskirts of the city for around $400 per night. Both Scottsdale and the Phoenix-Deer Valley Municipal Airport environs are presently listing rooms within this price point.
In central Phoenix or around the University of Phoenix Stadium, however, at this late hour no rooms over the Super Bowl weekend are available for less than $800 per night.
