Superior Court Judge Wendy Lindley to be honored by the Collaborative Courts Foundation of Orange County, September 7.
Laguna Beach, California (PRWEB) August 31, 2013 -- Orange County Superior Court Judge Wendy S. Lindley will be honored by the Collaborative Court Foundation of Orange County – a non-profit organization established to help fund services and programs implemented by the 18 Collaborative Courts of Orange County – at Seven Degrees on Saturday, September 7, from 6pm to 10pm.
“We’re thrilled to be honoring Judge Lindley for her tireless 20 years of dedication to the community and those individuals who would otherwise find themselves in jail or on the streets without the highly monitored services and programs provided by the Collaborative Courts,” said Kathy Burnham, Executive Director of the Collaborative Courts Foundation of Orange County. “From veterans struggling with the aftermath of combat – to the homeless, runaway teens and non-violent individuals struggling with drugs – Judge Lindley and her colleagues at the Collaborative Courts are making a huge difference in our county.”
Orange County Supervisor Todd Spitzer is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the event, with all proceeds going to support the work being done by the Collaborative Courts. The evening will also feature both live and silent auctions with participants bidding for hand-made works of art, travel packages and jewelry. “We’ll also have The Blues Pretenders providing music with the Honorable Geoffrey Glass on guitar,” she added.
Burnham says two veterans will also be speaking at the event, recounting how the Collaborative Courts changed their lives. “We have hundreds of homeless people living on the streets right here in our community, and a disturbingly large percentage of them – about 30 percent – are combat veterans suffering from a myriad of both physical and psychological issues. These are individuals who suddenly find themselves out of the service, out of work and on the streets dealing with post traumatic stress disorder, night terrors, memory loss and other symptoms… so many turn to drugs.”
In addition to the Combat Veterans Court, the Collaborative Courts of Orange County also operates Drug Court, DUI Court, Mental Health Courts, Homeless Outreach Court and Juvenile Drug Court.
“The courts not only serve non-violent drug offenders and veterans, but also juveniles who have dropped out of school and are into drugs or gangs, and the homeless,” she said. “More than ever, we urgently need donations – both from corporations and individuals – to help support the remarkable work being done by the Collaborative Courts… programs that are saving and changing lives.”
According to Burnham, the goal of the Collaborative Courts Foundation is to assist participants by providing educational workshops, mentors, transitional housing, emergency medical and dental funding and transportation vouchers. The Foundation also organizes tours of the Getty Museum, softball tournaments and hikes to bring families together and provide healthy activities.
