SureFire CPR Announces Winner of $1000 Scholarship for Pursuit of Medical Degree
ORANGE, Calif., Feb. 12, 2018 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Orange, CA 2/5/18 – SureFire CPR has announced that Stephanie Swan was selected as the 2018 SureFire CPR Scholarship winner. She will receive the $1,000 prize to go towards the cost of pursuing her Masters of Science degree in Athletic Training from Chapman University.

Stephanie attributes her desire to work in the medical field to an experience she had more than seven years ago. "When I was in high school, I took a sports medicine class taught by my high school's athletic trainer," said Stephanie Swan in her application.
She continued, "as part of this course, we had to observe her working at school sports games, which is where I saw her respond with a team of medical experts to a good friend of mine go down during a game with a suspected spinal injury. Watching her work together with the team doctor and EMTs inspired me to pursue a career in athletic training."
Stephanie explained in her submission that the impact of this event has strengthened her resolve to pursue this career, even when it becomes difficult. She hopes to one day be responding to emergency medical situations and be able to save a life, just as she witnessed.
After graduation, Stephanie hopes to begin work at a community college or college that has never had an athletic trainer. She is determined to increase the presence of trained medical professionals among these groups, since they are often underserved.
Further, she would like to educate people on the importance of CPR training and increase the number of lay person responders who know CPR. On a larger scale, Stephanie intends to research the causes of sudden cardiac death in order to develop better methods to recognize and ultimately prevent it.
Stephanie received a Bachelors of Science degree in Kinesiology and is currently pursuing a Masters of Science graduate degree in Athletic Training, from which she is expected to graduate this May 2018.
The SureFire CPR Scholarship was developed to support both full-time and part-time students pursuing degrees in the medical field and awards the winner $1,000. In order to be chosen, the student must excel in academics, be involved in his or her community through service activities and possess great leadership qualities.
