Survey: IT Leaders Identify Top Challenges Heading into 2017
Providence, Rhode Island (PRWEB) October 27, 2016 -- A recent Atrion survey analysis found that IT leaders are still struggling with cyber security, internal resources and budgetary constraints as they head into the new year. An industry-wide deficiency of cyber security skill sets and streamlined budgets, along with an increase in attacks on businesses of all sizes, attribute to top challenges for the year ahead.
To create greater awareness of common IT issues, Atrion, A Carousel Company, today released survey results from an analysis of 118 IT leaders about their biggest challenge for 2017. The IT services firm presented the results today at its second annual AlwaysOn Technology Symposium held October 27 in Providence, Rhode Island.
Of the IT challenges cited, the top five are:
1. Cyber Security
2. Internal Resources
3. Budgetary Constraints
4. Cloud Strategy
5. Internet of Things (IoT)
In a world plagued by cyber-attacks and data breaches, it comes as no surprise that cyber security tops the list of concerns. Vendors are rising to the challenge and sources say the global cyber security market will increase to $170 billion by 2020, up from $75.4 billion in 2015. With a myriad of solutions available, leaders find it difficult to choose trusted partners. What’s more, one single solution over a comprehensive security plan isn’t enough, adding to the complexity of the problem.
“Today, no one single solution is considered a suitable form of security defense. In the modern threat landscape, organizations must leverage their people, processes and technology to protect themselves,” said Josh King, security technical director, Atrion.
While IT department leaders tackle security challenges, they also must work with a lean team and stay ahead by implementing the latest technology.
“One of my struggles is on premise hardware and capital expenditures versus cloud-based operational expense,” said Christopher Eden, vice president information technology and operations, People’s Credit Union. He also cites data security fears as a significant challenge for 2017.
One government IT responder commented that he grapples with “not having enough staff to implement technology needed for the business. We need enterprise level technologies that can be implemented in a hybrid approach, with managed services that work in conjunction with our limited existing staff.”
Survey Methodology
The results were compiled from 118 IT leaders’ responses from government and higher education, insurance, healthcare, financial and various industries who manage IT services for their organization.
