Survey of Texas Manufacturers, Technology, Life Sciences and Innovation Companies Reveals Broad, Varied Interest and Skills Shortage in 3D Printing Applications Says NAU
Austin, TX (PRWEB) February 27, 2015 -- The purpose of the Rouche Graduate Center National American University 3D printing survey is to explore the current use of 3D printing in specific sectors of the economy. You are invited to contribute to the Survey about 3D Printing please go to https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3DTechnologySurvey. Preliminary results reveal varied use among large and small companies from a wide variety of different product categories of companies. In a recent PwC and Manufacturing Institute survey of 3D Printing use among US industrial manufacturing 67% are adopting 3D printing in some way and another 25% plan to adopt 3D printing in some way in the future.
Although 3D technology is about 20 years old, only recently has its use began to blossom with interest overseas appears ahead of the US but US implementation appears to lead foreign developments especially in the area of prototyping. As 3D machine prices continue to fall an increasing number of smaller and medium sized firms will no doubt find 3D printing more attractive. Even so, two of the largest suppliers of 3D technology innovations are in the US – 3D Systems Inc. (South Carolina, US) and Stratasys (US/Israel).
Just as 2D printing expanded in use, 3D printing technologies are growing and continue to become an enabler for an increasing number of industries. For example, the 3D printing model has become a most effective way to communicate to investors for projects from oil drilling, automated gates control systems, gaming, to architectural design for large scale residential and commercial projects, and urban planning. There are many more examples reported daily in the press but in most cases the use of 3D printing goes un-noticed particularly in producing replacement parts which are no longer available. There is also beginning to be a rise of personal manufacturing by consumers of what they want in all areas of living.
Almost half of the industrial manufactures responding to the PwC-Manufacturing Institute surveyed identified two major constraints to 3D printing adoption: “lack of current expertise to exploit the technology and the difficulty in recruiting talent, and uncertain quality of final product.” To remove these barriers the Roueche Graduate Center (RGC) will launch at the end of March 2015 a graduate 3D printing certification program that will provide comprehensive education in almost all aspects of 3D printing technology and hands-on application for designing and producing products on a variety of 3D printers. The program is designed for working professionals from manufacturing, life sciences, technology.
The RGC 3D Technology Certification program is consistent with Opportunity Austin 3.0 top priorities which include boosting economic diversification to proactively strengthen the economy, deepening the talent pool through development and attraction, and keeping the Greater Austin region attractive to entrepreneurs, business leaders and site selectors through expanded advocacy on issues such as a comprehensive regional transportation system and regional collaboration. Opportunity Austin 3.0 is targeting over eight key industries for future economic development, including: Advanced Manufacturing, Clean Energy & Power Technology, Data Management, Creative & Digital Media Technology, Life Sciences, and Corporate HQ & Regional Offices. The goal of Opportunity Austin 3.0 is to work toward measurable and impactfull goals through a set of metrics which include Total Private Employment, Average Annual Wages, Per Capita Income, Poverty Rate, Child Poverty Rate, Educational Attainment (BA or higher), etc.
Join the March 2015 launch of the 3D Technology Certification program designed for the working professional. The program covers: Engineering and Technology in Additive Manufacturing, Leading Innovation and Product Life Cycles, Leadership in Technology Transfer and Commercialization, Managing Technology and Engineering 2: Applications of 3D Technology Laboratory, Leading Corporate Entrepreneurship. Optional complementary support programs include: Auto CAD Design for 3D Printing, 3D Printing Machine Operation and Maintenance, and Supply Chain Management Simulation: Impact of 3D Printing Disruption.
