Surviving and Thriving: New Book “Elsie” Tells of One Woman’s Inspiring Existence
Ft. Collins, Colo. (PRWEB) November 19, 2013 -- When Antonia G. Rojas was only six years old, her mother died, and a mentally ill stepmother quickly invaded in place of the author’s beloved mama. In “Elsie,” Rojas tells the story of the selfless woman who took the author and her two siblings under her caring wing, protecting them from their stepmother’s abuse.
Elsie Olivas, who also lost her mother at a young age, treated Rojas and her siblings like her own children. Married at the age of 15, Olivas had seven children of her own to care for, but she never failed to provide love and guidance for Rojas and her siblings. “Elsie” is a message of surviving, thriving and leaving a legacy for the next generation.
“There are so many kind-hearted people around us,” Rojas said. “We must be willing to recognize the goodness of the heart.”
Rojas hopes telling the tale of one Latina woman’s journey through the 1930s and beyond will begin to pay back the incredible gift Olivas gave her when she had no one else.
“It is my turn to bless her like she blessed me as a young child of only six,” Rojas said.
