Survivor of Heinous Atrocities in Rwanda and Congo Shares His Story

It saw hundreds of thousands of men, women and children killed. This barbaric event saw an outpouring of international condemnation, and the Tutsi rebellion eventually toppled the Hutu government, leading to the formation of modern day Tutsi-led Rwanda. For author Emmanuel Ngiruwonsanga, however, the nightmare had just begun. This autobiographical novel completes three other books in which the same author talked about the survivors of the genocide in Rwanda and the subsequent massacres of the Hutus in Congo. Advised by his psychologists, the author finally opens his Pandora’s Box to release the memories that have paralyzed his life. He not only recounts his horrific and harrowing experiences during the genocide of the Tutsis, but also the difficult period after it, as well as his life prior to that genocide. This autobiographical novel is an open, moving account of the entire life of the author, truly a way of the cross, an account of his personal Calvary. He gives his testimony on his many narrow and miraculous escapes from death, not only in his own country and at the hands of his own compatriots, but also outside of Rwanda, in the Congo (the former Zaire) where he spent three years under unbearable living conditions. The author miraculously left his beloved country in Central Africa for Canada in North America. In his own words he describes the life he had passed through in Rwanda as hell on earth while his life in his new country, Canada, is like paradise on earth.

Emmanuel Ngiruwonsanga is a Rwandan-Canadian writer of three books on the Rwandan genocide and its aftermaths. This is his first autobiographical novel and he is currently writing another novel and a play. He is one of the survivors of the Rwandan genocide in Rwanda and the massacres in Congo (formerly Zaire) ) by the Tutsis of the RPA from Rwanda.
