Susquehanna Health Provides MyKeyCare Patient Portal for Health Information
Williamsport, PA (PRWEB) October 30, 2013 -- For many healthcare consumers, keeping track of medical information can be challenging unless a good system has been developed. As a member of Pennsylvania’s Keystone Health Information Exchange (KeyHIE), Susquehanna Health (SH) is providing patients with a free, easy and innovative system for gathering, storing and managing medical information as well as a means for interacting with their SH healthcare team.
Currently, more than 2,500 SH patients are enrolled in the MyKeyCare patient portal. This password-protected online tool allows patients to access their own health data from a computer, tablet or smartphone to view results from common diagnostic and lab tests including such things as mammograms; inpatient history, physicals and discharge summaries; operative reports and emergency room visits.
MyKeyCare also allows users to upload and store additional reports within their online record and maintain a medication form to record the names of the medicines they are taking as well as the strengths, dosages and prescribing providers. These records are available to the patient in a readable version or importable version that can be downloaded to a computer for future use.
MyKeyCare has also added two new ease of use features. MyHealthFinder is a web widget that allows users to learn more about preventative services based on age and gender. Another feature enables patients to grant others (such as a caregiver or family member) access to their MyKeyCare record through that individual’s MyKeyCare account.
Patient consent grants doctors and other healthcare professionals from more than 50 Pennsylvania healthcare providers access to the electronic medical records of participating patients in order to provide safer and more efficient patient-centered care. “The goal of this health IT network is to improve communication between individuals and their doctors as well as between hospitals and other healthcare professionals in an effort to provide the best possible patient care,” said Timothy Schoener, SH Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Information Officer.
Early next year, SH patients will have the option to request appointments and submit medication refill requests online using MyKeyCare, according to Schoener. “At a time when healthcare consumerism is becoming even more crucial, this is one way for Susquehanna Health to support our patients in being proactive, tracking their personal health information and obtaining quality healthcare,” he said.
