SuzyKnew Celebrates its 3rd Anniversary
Durham, NC (PRWEB) December 30, 2013 -- Founded in December 2010, SuzyKnew is still one of the few websites dedicated to both sexual health and pleasure for women of color with a focus on women from the African diaspora. A community of women from over 50 countries including the US, UK, Nigeria, Kenya, Uganda, Ghana and the Philippines, SuzyKnew strives to give women a space to explore the complexities of love and sex while staying healthy.
SuzyKnew was started by Denise L Harrison, MA, MBA a global reproductive health specialist who has worked in over 50 African and Asian countries. Her mission has remained clear from the start: to provide the most up-to-date information on contraception and reproductive health, while offering a safe space for women with similar relationship goals and interests. To this end, she is supported by a diverse team of experts and contributors such as the following columnists:
• ASK JANICE, an advice column written by J Fuller-Roberts, a self-described Sexuality Mentor and “Sista Griot”;
• ASK AN OBGYN, written by Suzanne Brockman, RH a clinician who has worked globally, and currently works on a reproductive health project in Haiti;
• Filipina_Gal, submitted by A. Luz, an actual Filipina Gal who hails from Mindanao, graduated from an East Coast Seven Sisters college, and is now based in West Africa; and
• The Roses of Fertility Awareness, provided by Rose Watson-Ormond, an MPh candidate who is trying to prevent pregnancy without putting a lot of hormones in her body.
SuzyKnew also brings its readers information about the latest research on reproductive health and contraceptives from sources such as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Guttmacher Institute as well as niche social commentary blogs on black women’s sexuality such as Adventures from African Women’s Bedrooms, What About Our Daughters, Madame Noire, and Spinsterlicious. Building upon its growing readership, SuzyKnew has also contributed articles to Corset, Adventures from African Women’s Bedrooms, and other women’s sites. Her goal for the coming year is to reach even more women of color with articles and information that empower them to make satisfying and healthy decisions about romantic relationships and sex and put them in touch with others with similar goals.
