Swindon Ice Rink Refurbishments are on Schedule
Inverness (PRWEB UK) 30 July 2013 -- Swindon's ice rink is currently closed for three months over the summer for £700,000 of work to replace the ice pad. Skating ceased at the Link Centre from 3 June with the rink expected to be in use again on 19 August. New plant machinery is also being installed and is expected to save up to 25% in energy costs, the rink's management has said.
Borough councillor Keith Williams said 'June and July were the quietest months of the year for ice skating. The ice plant is coming to the end of its life and, as a result, this work is essential', he added.
The Ice Rink Company Managing Director Mark Johnson has commented ‘we are really pleased with the progress of the refurbishment project. The company has had a fantastic last 5 years with contracts in Widnes, Cannock, Altrincham, Utoxeter, as well the 02 Arena London. It’s also a sign that ice skating is seeing an upsurge in interest and local authorities and private operators are all understanding the benefits of updating their facilities’.
People interested in the renovations can watch time-lapse recordings made by Mark’s company online at their Facebook page. These live videos have already received over 5000 hits by interested locals.
