Swords to Plowshares Expands Holiday Tradition to East Bay Homeless Veterans
San Francisco, California (PRWEB) December 13, 2016 -- At Swords to Plowshares we strive to ensure our homeless veterans are not forgotten, especially during the holiday season. This week we continue a thirty year holiday tradition of providing warm meals, warm clothes and holiday spirit to hundreds of homeless veterans here in San Francisco. We are excited to announce that this holiday tradition will be expanded to Oakland this year to provide some much needed holiday cheer to our homeless veterans in Alameda County.

The two holiday feasts and backpack giveaways will provide 325 of the San Francisco Bay Area’s most vulnerable veterans some needed holiday cheer with some essential items to help them through the cold winter months.
“We are reaching out to our wonderful community to help us provide a nice holiday meal and essential items for our homeless veterans,” said Colleen Corliss, Resource Development and Communications Director at Swords to Plowshares. “PianoFight has offered us the use of their space free of charge for our holiday party in San Francisco and Google.org has generously offered to match all donations up to $15,000 to cover the costs of these holiday meals and to fill these backpacks. A small donation of $50 will end up providing backpacks to two homeless veterans thanks to Google.org’s match.”
Each year, volunteers meet at Swords to Plowshares office to fill the backpacks with essential items. The holiday meal with be catered by our community partner, St. Anthony’s and their culinary staff.
