Syracuse, NY (PRWEB) August 06, 2015 -- Before the Syracuse Chiefs and Pawtucket Red Sox took the field at NBT Stadium on August 4, the Syracuse-based HearStrong Foundation held a special ceremony to celebrate several local men and women for their determination to overcome hearing loss and empower others to do the same.
Known as HearStrong Champions, the honorees, which included Geoff Herbert, Sandy Jurkiewicz, Chris Fraser, Michael Plano, and Joe Jenners, each received public recognition for refusing to allow hearing loss to keep them from living their lives on their terms.
Ed Keller, president and founder of the HearStrong Foundation, also challenged attendees to make their own hearing health a priority by receiving annual hearing screenings with one of the many licensed hearing healthcare professionals in the area.
“Our mission is to destigmatize hearing loss and hearing devices in order to motivate the 30 million Americans with untreated hearing loss to take control of their health and happiness,” said Keller. “By recognizing those who choose to utilize hearing devices to reconnect to the people and things that matter most to them, we can inspire others and help change their lives for the better.”
A global hearing healthcare awareness and education organization, HearStrong’s mission is supported by high-profile groups such as the NFL Players Association, the Chicago Bears, the Chicago Blackhawks, and NBA Legends, and notable professional athletes including Patrick Kane, A.C. Green, Robert Horry, Jerry West, and Bill Russell.
