Take Your Tropical Vacation in Kansas City at Local Art Gallery
Kansas City, Missouri (PRWEB) August 15, 2015 -- For a tropical island experience, come to Buttonwood Art Space to enjoy art and music of the tropics, all in support of the Mid America Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Buttonwood, located at 3013 Main in Kansas City, Missouri, is hosting the opening reception for Tides and Trade Winds as part of its regular First Friday experience Sept. 4. Sponsored by Tommy Bahama™, art by Bahamian artists Anthony “Big Mo” Morley, his wife, Ann, and others from the Bahamas will be featured along with that of regional artists. This is the Bahamian artists’ premier introduction in Kansas City. The reception event, which runs from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., offers artwork, appetizers—whole hog!—beer, wine, a silent auction and tropical music by Calypso Bluz, a local duo.
Carolyn Dvorak, a freelance writer and photographer in De Soto, Kansas, has been spending the better part of the last three years in Nassau, Bahamas, with her husband, Kent, who is working on Baha Mar, a new multi-hotel/casino resort in that city. “During this time, I’ve discovered the rich talent of Bahamian artists and wanted to begin to introduce them and their work to the Kansas City area,” Dvorak said. “Buttonwood is a good fit, as I have worked with them before and all of their shows benefit nonprofits. The Morleys also feel strongly about supporting nonprofits and have done so many times with their shows in the Bahamas. I was given the choice of a charity and picked the MS Society, as I have relatives and friends who are dealing with or have dealt with the disease.”
To add another dimension to the Bahamian nature of the show and tie-in with the MS Society, show representatives will have a booth at the annual Ethnic Enrichment Festival, Aug. 21 to 23, at Swope Park, Meyer Boulevard and Swope Parkway.
