Talking Stick Visitor Center Will Open Just in Time for Spring Training Season
(PRWEB) January 29, 2014 -- Talking Stick, a Cultural and Entertainment Destination (TSCED) an initiative of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community will open the Talking Stick Visitor Center to the public on Feb. 25 located at 9120 E. Indian Bend, Suite E-10 in the Pavilions shopping center, next to YC’s Mongolian restaurant.
The TSCED area is home to Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, Talking Stick Resort, Talking Stick Golf Club, The Pavilions at Talking Stick, the Courtyard by Marriott Scottsdale Salt River, Butterfly Wonderland and coming this spring, TopGolf.
The visitor center will be open for spring training Feb. 25 thru Mar. 30, daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will serve two purposes. The first is to be an information hub for the TSCED partners. Cultural ambassadors will be on hand to make tee times, dinner reservations or hand out brochures and information to guests. Second, it will offer visitors a unique experience into the rich heritage of the Akimel O’odham (Pima) and Xalychidom Piipaash (Maricopa) cultures through song, dance and art. Starting February 26, traditional dance performances and art demonstrations will be offered Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m., while an interpretive exhibit by the Huhugam Ki Museum and displays from the Salt River Two Waters Art Collection will be offered at no charge to visiting guests daily.
“Whether it’s for culture, recreation, shopping, staying or dining, baseball fans and their families will find that our destination area has an amenity to satisfy every need,” Marketing Project Manager Blessing McAnlis-Vasquez said. “The visitor center will highlight cultural aspects of the Community that provide our guests a unique and memorable experience. In addition, our destination partners offer specials, accommodation packages or cultural days and the best part is that they are all conveniently located along our complimentary trolley route to and from the new visitor center.”
Yellow Bird world-renowned dancers will perform Fridays and Saturdays at 6 p.m. in the Fire Garden at the Talking Stick Resort. “The desert climate this time of year is at its most inviting and we want our hotel guests to come sit under the stars and enjoy these legendary, Native American performers,” said Ramon Martinez, director of public relations for Talking Stick Resort. “Every Spring Training season we try to bring a new cultural offering to visitors around the country and around the world, music and dance is something everyone can celebrate.”
Butterfly Wonderland, a destination partner that boasts the largest butterfly atrium in North America, will host cultural experience days on March 1, 15 and 29. Visitors will be able to hear short stories read by Martha Ludlow-Martinez, Miss Salt River, an ambassador to the SRPMIC and her court. Children will be able to take home arts and crafts made with the assistance of SRPMIC Cultural Ambassadors while parents can enjoy traditional dance group performances.
