TalkLocal Joins Other DC Startups to Demo at The SXSW We DC House Today
Washington, DC (PRWEB) March 14, 2015 -- Talklocal will be represented at the 2015 South by Southwest Interactive festival in Austin, Texas today. Co-founders Manpreet Singh, Amandeep Bakshi, and Business Development Head Rajesh Karyampudi will illustrate the TalkLocal app live during The We DC Startup Showcase on Saturday, March 14th.
The We DC House is the result of a $500k government investment in promoting DC area innovation and investment in technology.
TalkLocal, which will demo along with several other DC area startups, is a local marketplace which matches consumers to the right local pros and connects them by phone in about 90 seconds. It features a proprietary algorithm which filters out companies based on locations, service, availability, consumer reviews, and call analytics.
The team launched TalkLocal, then Seva Call, from a Potomac, MD residential basement. They established their first proof of concept by helping people in the DC metro area connect with an available snow removal professional during the 2010 Snowmageddon.
Despite their need for seed-funding at the time, the founders declined offers that would have them relocate to the West Coast as a prerequisite to funding.
“Many investors doubted our ability to excel in our hometown” President Manpreet Singh explained, “...but, we trusted our strong network of community support. And now, look at where we are! We're at SXSW and so is our hometown!”.
In late 2011, TalkLocal oversubscribed its first round of funding. To date, the company has raised $4m to date and delivered over 1m calls connecting consumers and businesses nationwide.
Similarly, the city- which some of TalkLocal’s prospective investors deemed unsuitable for tech innovation - has now invested $500k in public funds to argue just the opposite, making its statement at one of the biggest tech and cultural festivals of the year.
“The major investment by the city shows that Mayor Bowser gets it. The administration understands the value of locally based innovation, and he understands what it takes to support it. We couldn’t be more proud and excited to represent our tech community in Austin.”- Rajesh Karyampudi, Business Development.
.
TalkLocal raised $4 million in venture funding, has served in 49 states and recently marked its one millionth service request call., and offers 50 service categories like roofing, accountants and heating & cooling. Free to consumers, businesses only pay per conversation after a free lead preview and connect over a secure line to protect consumer privacy.
