Tampa Car Accident Attorney Larry Disparti Addresses Reported Drop in Concern about Risky Driving Behavior
Tampa, FL (PRWEB) September 21, 2013 -- Tampa car accident attorney Larry Disparti today called attention to a new article on his firm’s Florida Personal Injury Law Blog which takes a close look at the surprising results of a new AAA survey.
“Based on this survey, fewer drivers today are concerned about the exact kinds of driving that lead to crashes such as drunk driving, drowsy driving and distracted driving,” said Disparti, founder of the Disparti Law Group, P.A., which serves auto accident victims throughout Tampa and surrounding areas in Florida.
“We found those results to be very alarming, and we wanted to bring attention to them,” Disparti said. “After all, a major part of our firm’s mission is to raise awareness about dangerous driving and to promote traffic safety.”
According to the September 6 blog article, “People Less Worried About Dangerous Driving,” the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety’s analysis of four years of surveys about driver attitudes found:
• Only 69 percent of people surveyed in 2012 believed that driving after drinking is a serious threat – down from 90 percent in 2009.
• Those who viewed drowsy driving as a serious threat dropped from 71 percent in 2009 to 46 percent in 2012.
• The percentage of people who believed that texting or emailing while driving is a very serious threat declined from 87 percent in 2009 to 81 percent in 2012. At the same time, those who admitted to texting while driving increased from 21 to 26 percent.
The blog article notes that there was a 5.3 percent increase in traffic fatalities in the U.S. between 2011 and 2012, marking the first rise in annual deaths due to car accidents since 2005, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“Those are certainly worrying facts, and they may reflect this shift in drivers’ attitudes about dangerous driving,” Disparti said.
Disparti said those who drive recklessly in Florida and elsewhere should be held accountable for causing accidents that harm others.
“A person injured by the reckless driving of another has a right to seek compensation for their medical expenses, money they have lost from being unable to work, their pain and suffering and other losses,” Disparti said. “Taking action also sends a strong message that such conduct won’t be tolerated.”
